Caitlin's Outfit of the Week #6

Hi everyone! How's your spring break been? Mine's been very good. My older sister came home from college this week and we've been having a lot of fun hanging out, talking, and shopping. The last time she came home we went on a shopping spree (for great deals of course!). I'm going to use one of the pieces that time I got in my outfit this week! (Hint: it's the graphic tee)
I dressed up a graphic tee with a purple cardigan, skinny jeans, and flats. For accessories I added a necklace, bracelets, and earrings.

Graphic Tee: American Eagle on clearance ($5)
Cardigan: Aeropostale - bought on consignment ($5)
Skinny Jeans: Old Navy ($15)
Flats: American Eagle - bought on consignment ($5)
Necklace, bracelets, and earrings: Handmade or gifts

Have a good spring break!

Caitlin's Outfit of the Week #5

Hi everyone! My week has been crazy. Our church's orchestra had our annual "Homecoming Concert" last Saturday. It went well, Rose and I rocked it out as the only two flautists there. It was a lot of fun and we got to listen to and play some "classic gospel hits." All in all, it was a good concert, Rose and I had a lot of fun playing it. My outfit is a little late this week! Sorry about that! Here it is!

In this outfit I layered a button blouse under a gray ruffled dress. I added a belt and leggings.
For accessories, I have a feathered headband, various bracelets, and pink ruffled shoes.

Legend of Zelda themed bracelet
Bracelets
White Blouse: Gap - bought on consignment ($4)
Gray Dress: Mossimo - bought on consignment ($6)
Black Leggings: Walmart ($6)
Pink Shoes: American Eagle - bought on consignment ($4)
Feathered Headband: Thrift Store ($1.50)

Have a nice week! Take a look at Rose's post about stacking bracelets!

Stacking Bracelets

Hello!
I received an e-mail from Charming Charlie one day that blew my mind. Well...Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration-but it did show me ways to stack bracelets that I had never thought about!
I always wear my watch, and maybe a bracelet on my other wrist. The end. This inspired me to mix, stack, and-my favorite-add bracelets with my watch! I still try to limit the colors to 2-3 and pick styles that compliment each other, but the
possibilities
are really
endless.
Here's some ideas that I put together! All the bracelets and my watch are gifts I've gotten over the years, so I didn't have to spend any extra money. Just needed the inspiration! Thank you, Charming Charlie! (and everyone who gave me these gifts:)

How to Shop at a Thrift Store: Shopping for Crafts

Hi everyone! I'm finishing out my "How to Shop at a Thrift Store" with some tips on shopping with the ideas of re-purposing and crafting in mind! Enjoy!

One of my favorite crafting mediums to use are BOOKS. I love using books. The possibilities are endless. I like to use them with origami to make bracelets such as these -

I also use maps. They come out looking really cool either way.
The thing to keep in mind is to ONLY BUY THE BOOKS THAT ARE IN BAD CONDITION. Bookworms everywhere cringe at the thought of destroying a book. I only use the books that are, torn, water damaged, have pages missing, or are otherwise worthless. I also sometimes use sheet music but under the same conditions. We musicians frown on destroying precious sheet music.

Maps. Again, same conditions as books and sheet music. They're a lot of fun because usually they're really cheap and there's a lot of paper for the price. Sometimes you can even find really cool places. I was really excited when I found two maps of France. (one pictured above)

Thrift stores never have a shortage of glassware. I love etching glass, the product always comes out looking amazing. I always buy my glasses/mugs at the thrift store. That way if it doesn't turn out looking *just right* you won't be out more than about $1.

You may not necessarily think to look for fabric at the thrift store. I actually really like buying it there. The prices are a FRACTION of the cost at the fabric store. I always wash the fabric when I get it home, sometimes it's dusty or has a musty odor.

As a knitter, I'm always on the lookout for new knitting needles. I've found some cool vintage needles at the thrift store. I like the vintage metal needles. I've also seen crochet hooks for all you crocheters out there.

And this wraps up my "How to Shop at the Thrift Store" series! I had a ton of fun sharing these tips with you and I hope it helped you a lot. One of my favorite things to do is shop at the thrift store, and maybe I inspired some of you to try your hand at thrifting as well. If YOU ever find something cool at the thrift store, tell us about it in the comments! We'd love to hear about it and be jealous of your awesome finds. Have a great weekend!

Rose's Outfit of the Week #4

  Good evening!

  I have 4 tests
  this week and
  have been busily
  studying away...

  Something that always
  cheers me up and
  helps me get through
a day (or a test) is
  wearing something
  different than usual
  that is colorful and fun!

  I feel a little more
  prepared for anything
that may come my way :]

  Just like Caitlin wrote
in her post here, you can
   wear something dressy
   even if you're just doing
   an everyday activity!

   It can sure
   brighten yours, and other
   people's busy days.

  So
  maybe
next time you have a huge test or some other task that's looming ahead, ask the Lord for strength, put on a fun dress or bright hat and go for it!

Caitlin's Outfit of the Week #4

Hi everyone!
Today was one of those days where I wanted to dress up but I didn't have anywhere special to go. I had just made a new outfit and I was dying to wear it. One problem. All I was doing today was going to band class. Nothing special. But today I threw it all out the window and wore a dressy outfit to do an everyday activity. And I didn't regret it.
I wore a new black and white striped top that had beautiful lace detailing in the back. I tucked this into a simple skirt and added leggings. For accessories I have black moccasins, a red belt, necklace, hair bow and various bracelets.

I've come to the conclusion that once in a while getting all dressed up for no reason is incredibly fun. Maybe this week you should try it. Put on some nice clothes and just go to the grocery store! Enjoy your week and have fun with some new outfits!!
